Ivy Taylor
BIOGRAPHY:
Ivy Taylor, also known as PhoxRiot, is an artist of wicked and wild things. Crafting sticky memories from her past into haunting pieces, or painting animals to depict emotions left unsaid – she can relate to an audience with ease. Prince George local, she has seen the town flourish and fall in many ways, but still finds home here with pride.
PhoxRiot is a cover, a way to let herself expand and explode with her art freely. Never having felt comfortable in whatever box was presented, while also fearing being perceived – she hopes PhoxRiot can pave the way to allowing her voice and art be heard and seen, contemplated and related to.
STATEMENT:
My art has been the one thing that has stuck. I started with writing short stories about paradoxical tales and poetry about my inner workings from a young age. It was the box I allowed myself freedom in. Branching out to sketching and drawing with graphite and occassionally charcoal, I found love in the arts. Any kind of art, whether it be the tactility of sculpting clay or the versatility of mixed media, there is always an avenue to pursue.
PhoxRiot has granted me the privilege of expanding my horizons, holding space for my visions to come to life where my anxiety and mild-mannered self was unable. It’s a guise, but not in the way that it isn’t who I am – it’s just a part of me. A part that helps carry me forward when my fear says stop.
In Kindergarten, when asked what I wanted to be – I said an artist and an author and with the works I’m currently creating, I feel like one. Not only am I projecting art and meaning that symbolizes who I am into the world, it is what I truly enjoy doing and plan on doing for a very long time.
